We are beginning to see an increase in excessively high negative lunch balances in our cafeterias. Our goal is to make sure all students have a meal, but we need to stress the importance of keeping balances under the limits. The cafeteria operates on a budget and requires the revenue to flow to cover expenses like salaries, equipment, and the general operation of the cafeteria. The cafeteria is a “self-supporting” fund and is required by law to operate within its own guidelines and in a positive state. There is regular notification when lunch balances are nearing a negative status, and we really need for those balances to be addressed. The balance amount is $10.00 in all three buildings. When students reach the balance limit, they will be asked to bring a lunch, pay with cash, or not be allowed to receive a meal. We in no way want any child to go hungry, be embarrassed, or be denied a meal, but we simply have to have accounts paid to continue operating efficiently. We do realize it is difficult economically for everyone, and we want everyone to know that if providing money for lunches is a problem, there are ways to get assistance for this. The forms for free and reduced are on our website and may be requested in any office. We are also open to payments on accounts. Each building will be glad to work with you on paying down large balances. If you are struggling financially, please contact us, and we will do everything we can to assist you with your situation. Also, please understand any charges prior to acceptance to the free/reduced program, you are responsible for those charges. Balance limits will be strictly enforced starting in January 2014, so we ask that everyone take care of negative balances as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.
