A Message About Attendance and Senate Enrolled Act 282
We know attendance can sometimes feel confusing, and recent updates to Indiana law (Senate Enrolled Act 282) may have added to that concern for some families. At East Washington School Corporation, we want to provide clarity and reassurance as we move forward together.
What’s Changed?
SEA 282 now requires all absences—even those that are excused—to be counted in a student’s official attendance record. But this does not mean that students will be penalized for being sick, attending a funeral, or other valid absences.
What’s Not Changing?
Our commitment to supporting families. We know life happens, and we remain focused on early support, proactive communication, and strong partnerships with parents to ensure student success.
What You Can Do:
Keep reporting absences as you always have.
Work with your school when challenges come up—we’re here to help.
Reach out if you have questions. We want to be part of the solution.
At East Washington, we believe attendance matters—but we also believe in grace, understanding, and putting kids first. Let's work together to create the best path forward for every Musketeer.
